About the Course
This course is designed to enhance student understanding of world history by incorporating skill building in critical and analytical thinking and writing all while making the studies FUN so that students hopefully can avoid suffering chronic anxiety attacks throughout the year. The emphasis is on political, economic, and socio-cultural issues that span the six time periods (good grief! 8,000 years?!) designated by the College Board and which examine various different regions of the world as outlined by the (ho, hum) course description, which can be found at http://apcentral.collegeboard.com. |
About the Exam
Our studies are in no way entirely geared toward "The Test", lest we forget to learn for the simple wonder of learning, however we will focus on required skills so that students are much more than prepared for the rigors (did I mention this test is tough?) of the AP Examination. The exam is 3 hours and 5 minutes long and includes a 55-minute multiple-choice section of 70 multiple choice questions, and a 130-minute free-response section, entailing two thematic essays and one document-based essay (yes, indeed, students may feel their fingers might fall off when finished). Both sections of the examination account for half of the student's exam score. |
Ms. GriggsBello is a seasoned educator who graduated summa cum laude (think again, if you are of the mind that the language of our Roman ancestors is really dead!) from Adelphi University with a B.A. in History and in Social Studies Education and a minor in Literature. She received her Master's degree from New York University with high honors and has taken hundreds, perhaps thousands even, of hours of pedagogical and professional development courses and training in the 18+ years she has been teaching in public schools. Her world travels have made her more insightful and ever more fascinated about the wild world which we inhabit and mold, and her enthusiasm is boundless for sharing the wonders of history and how it is always in the making.
